covid-19 tests

Starting on January 19, 2022, every American household became eligible to receive four free COVID-19 tests under the federal government’s direction. The BinaxNOW kits contain rapid antigen self-tests, allowing people to administer testing at home. In turn, people who exhibit symptoms of coronavirus can make informed decisions about quarantining without needing to visit a doctor’s office or public health department.

This program arose due to the recent omicron spike, which has since diminished. Nevertheless, applying to receive your kits will help you stay prepared for future strains of the virus that may emerge.

The federal government partnered with the United States Postal Service to deliver these items into the hands of any Americans who apply to receive them.

Editorial note: I ordered my test kits on the first day, January 19, 2022. However, I just got mine in today’s mail, February 16, 2022. The government recently described delays resulting from the high demand when the program opened.

In addition to providing these kits, the federal government also now mandates health insurance carriers to reimburse Americans for the cost of testing materials purchased at private pharmacies or retail chains within their network.
